DNS Lookup
Query DNS records for any domain. Check A, AAAA, MX, TXT, NS, CNAME, SOA, and CAA records. Identify email authentication settings like SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.
Understanding DNS Records
DNS (Domain Name System) records are the foundation of how the internet works. They translate human-readable domain names into IP addresses and configure various services.
A & AAAA Records
A records map domain names to IPv4 addresses, while AAAA records map to IPv6 addresses. These are the most fundamental DNS records that tell browsers where to find your website.
MX Records
MX (Mail Exchange) records specify which mail servers handle email for your domain. The priority number determines the order in which servers are tried - lower numbers have higher priority.
TXT Records
TXT records store text information and are commonly used for email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), domain verification (Google, Microsoft), and other services that need to verify domain ownership.
NS Records
NS (Name Server) records specify which DNS servers are authoritative for your domain. These servers respond to DNS queries and store all your domain's DNS records.
CNAME Records
CNAME (Canonical Name) records create aliases pointing to another domain name. They are commonly used for subdomains like www or for pointing to third-party services.
SOA Record
SOA (Start of Authority) contains administrative information about the domain, including the primary name server, hostmaster email, serial number for tracking changes, and various timing values for DNS propagation.
CAA Records
CAA (Certificate Authority Authorization) records specify which certificate authorities are allowed to issue SSL/TLS certificates for your domain. This helps prevent unauthorized certificate issuance.
