WHOIS Lookup
Look up domain registration information. Check registrar, creation date, expiration, name servers, and availability status for any domain.
Understanding WHOIS Data
WHOIS is a protocol for querying databases that store registered domain information. This data helps identify domain ownership, check expiration dates, and verify legitimate domain registrations.
Registration Dates
The creation date shows when the domain was first registered. The expiration date indicates when the registration needs to be renewed. Domains that expire may become available for registration by others.
Registrar Information
The registrar is the company through which the domain was registered. Popular registrars include GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, and Cloudflare. The registrar manages the domain's registration and DNS settings.
Name Servers
Name servers are responsible for translating domain names to IP addresses. They determine where your domain's DNS records are hosted and which servers handle DNS queries for your domain.
Domain Status Codes
Status codes indicate the current state of a domain. Common statuses include "ok" (normal operation), "clientTransferProhibited" (transfer locked), and "clientDeleteProhibited" (deletion locked). These help protect domains from unauthorized changes.
DNSSEC
DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions) adds cryptographic signatures to DNS records, helping prevent DNS spoofing and cache poisoning attacks. When enabled, it provides an additional layer of security for your domain.
Privacy Protection
Many registrars offer WHOIS privacy protection (also called domain privacy), which replaces your personal contact information with the registrar's details. This helps protect against spam and unwanted contact.
